Who is a student with a visual impairment?
Residual sight user
A student whose visual impairment allows him/her to work visually (even with texts), with common document formats, including visual ones. Image modification consists in enlarging or otherwise changing the visual character of the image.
Tactile/Voice user
A student who works either with tactile documents or with screen readers (combined with a tactile display or voice output) and, therefore, requires an editable text document format, or a document adapted in terms of content and form.
What procedures do we need to observe in classes?
- Comprehensibility and the most accurate description possible are always important.
- Ask control questions to make sure that the student understands everything.
- Please take into account that the student might not be able to see what is written on the board or a screened presentation/text/video. It is a good idea to make prior arrangements with the student and, if necessary, send him/her in advance the presentation/text/video to be screened in the class.
- When assigning written tasks or tests, the student might not be able to read the standard font size (11 or 12). It is a good idea to make arrangements with the student in advance and enlarge the text or allow him/her to write on a computer, where he/she can increase the font size as needed.
